Liverpool are reportedly closing in on the signing of young Coventry defender Sam McCallum.
According to reports, the Reds will snap up the defender during the January window before sending him back to the League One side on loan for the remainder of the season.
McCallum could become the club’s second January signing, with Jurgen Klopp’s men also reportedly poised to sign Takumi Minamino from Red Bull Salzburg.

McCallum appears to be a long-term signing, he’s not a player that looks ready for any first-team football at Anfield just yet.
Regardless, this is good planning from the Reds. It’s a position that they need to strengthen if they want to provide serious competition for Andy Robertson.
The hope will surely be that in a few years, McCallum will be a player that can really push Robertson.
