Liverpool linked with move for Italian international

New Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp wants to bring Inter Milan’s Andrea Ranocchia to the club, according to Gazetta dell Sport.

Ranocchia had been linked with a move to the Reds’ Merseyside rivals Everton in the summer, but the deal never got over the line.

Klopp was apparently interested in signing the 27-year-old when he was in charge of Borussia Dortmund, and that fondness of the centre-back looks to have carried over to Liverpool.

Ranocchia joined Inter Milan in 2010 when they paid for full ownership of him by giving Genoa a fee of €12.5m, but he’s fallen out of favour this season.

Roberto Mancini has yet to give Ranocchia, who has been capped by Italy on 20 occasions, a start during this campaign and has preferred to start the duo of Jeison Murillo and Gary Medel in the centre of his defence.

It makes sense for Liverpool to be linked with a new defender. Jurgen Klopp insisted that he wanted to make the team difficult to beat, and with both Dejan Lovren and Martin Skrtel struggling to play at a consistently high level, the likelihood is that the new manager will want to add to his defensive options.
