Liverpool priced out of Teixeira deal

Liverpool look to have been priced out of a deal to sign Alex Teixeira from Shakhtar Donetsk as the Ukrainian club say they will not sell the Brazilian for any amount less than his buy-out clause of €70m (£53m).

Sergiy Palkin, Shakhtar’s General Director went on Ukrainian TV and explained the latest developments and the club’s stance regarding the possible sale of the 26-year-old.

He said:

Liverpool stopped after an offer of €32m and a €4m bonus. This is the last number that was announced. Our position is that we do not want to sell Teixeira today. We will sell him only at the end of the season. We need to have some good results in the Europa League and the Ukraine championship. At the end of the season we will sit down at the negotiating table. Teixeira has a compensation charge in his contract – the price is €70m. Please, if someone wants him – let them come and declare themselves.

It is highly unlikely that Liverpool would bid anything even close to €70million for the Brazilian, so unless Shakhtar decide to change their stance and come back to the negotiating table, it seems that the player will not get his wish to move to the Premier League.

Liverpool could test the resolve of Shakhtar with another bid before the transfer window closes on Monday evening, but it’s almost certain that they won’t bid anywhere near Teixeira’s release clause, so they’ll be hoping the player and his agent can try to engineer a move.

matchday.
