When it comes to the EPL, Liverpool is one of the most influential English teams that have recorded great win both home and away. However, some of those wins are more glorious than others, with a number of them leaving strong teams feeling humiliated. Here are the 10 biggest European victories that Liverpool has claimed.
1. November 1967, Liverpool Vs. TSV Munich
With a notable musical theme, TSV Munich visited Anfield for the Fairs Cup in 1967. Their goalkeeper Peter Radenkonic was a recorded pop singer, but only the Reds were entertaining that night. As a result, six different players scored, with Rodger Hunt and Callaghan doing so twice to end the match at 8-0.
2. September 1969, Liverpool Vs. Dundalk
Liverpool recorded double figures in a single game for the second time when Dundalk visited for the Fairs Cup. The Reds took the lead in under a minute thanks to Alun Evans, netting five goals in each half to win the match at 10-0.
3. September 1974, Liverpool Vs. Stromsgodset
Scoring 11-0 against the Norwegian side, Stromsgodset, this is historically the biggest victory for Liverpool in all competitions. The game was an excellent start for the Reds manager Bob Paisley, with the last three goals being scored within the final five minutes.
4. November 1975, Liverpool Vs. Real Sociedad
With Paisley as the Red’s manager, this UEFA cup victory would have made a great bet at Betway as it put Liverpool on the course to ultimately claim the trophy. Kevin Keegan missed a penalty in the first half, capping the final results at 6-0, with the Reds easing into round three ahead of the Spanish side.
5. December 1977, Liverpool Vs. Hamburg
A fortnight after Liverpool played Hamburg for the Super Cup final in the first leg, the European Cup holders met the German side again and secured the trophy in a ruthless style for the first time. Paisley’s men put six unanswered goals past the Hamburg outfit, starting with a hat-trick by McDermott in the 16th minute.
6. October 1980, Liverpool Vs. Oulu Palloseura
With the Reds having returned from Finland for the first leg with a 1-1 draw, they didn’t waste any time in booking a spot for the next stage. Graeme Souness took an early lead in the first five minutes, but Paisleys men were ready to return the favor, scoring four goals in the first half and six in the second half.
7. September 1981, Liverpool Vs. Palloseura
A year after recording an extraordinary performance against Palloseura, Liverpool repeated their brilliant performance but fell a little short. Ian Rush and Mark Lawson got the first goals for the Reds, with the match ending at 7-0 in Liverpool’s favor.
8. November 2007, Liverpool Vs. Besiktas
Only six months after their Champions League final contest in Athens, the Reds were struggling to move past the group stage during this season. Fortunately, they were able to net a total of eight goals from Ryan Babel, Yossi Benayoun, Steven Gerrard, and Peter Crouch.
9. October 2017, NK Maribor Vs. Liverpool
With Klopp as the manager, Liverpool had a record-breaking night that left many fans and betway betting enthusiasts smiling. The Reds put seven goals past Maribor in Slovenia, making it their biggest away win in Europe.
10. December 2017, Liverpool Vs. Spartak Moscow
Requiring at least a point to get to the knockout stage in the Champions League, Klopp’s men took an early lead against Spartak Moscow within five minutes. Even better, they went ahead to emulate the seven-goal haul they had at Slovenia only a few weeks later in their home ground.
