Steve Nicol has told Liverpool to re-sign either Dejan Lovren or Mamadou Sakho on loan, in order to deal with their current injury crisis.
If Virgil van Dijk’s cruciate ligament injury was bad enough, the Reds are now also having to make do without Fabinho and Joel Matip.
It means Joe Gomez is the only established centre-back available to Jurgen Klopp, as the fixtures continue to come thick and fast.
Rhys Williams could possibly have to be drafted in at home to West Ham on Saturday, with Jordan Henderson also an option to drop into defence.
Speaking to ESPN FC, via the Metro, former Liverpool man Nicol jokingly talked up the idea of bringing back Lovren or Sakho:
I think we should try and get [Dejan] Lovren back on loan, maybe that would solve the problem, [Mamadou] Sakho’s not getting a game for Palace either.
We’re basically down to Rhys Williams who’s not even a centre-back. It’s just backs-to-the-wall time.

This is a bizarre claim from Nicol, although there was a tongue-in-cheek element to his comments.
Both Lovren and Skho had their good moments in a Liverpool shirt – Lovren famously scored a last-gasp winner against Borussia Dortmund in 2016 – but both were ultimately never good enough.
The pair had too many individual errors in them, often playing well for the vast chunk of games, before dropping a clanger.
While Liverpool certainly need to bring in a new centre-back in January, the ship has sailed with Lovren and Sakho.
They are now 31 and 30, respectively, and there are simply better options out there, from Dayot Upamecano to Ozan Kabak.
