Rodgers: Rossiter will get his chance

Jordan Rossiter will by staying at Liverpool, insists Brendan Rodgers, who today said that the player will get a chance in the first team to show what he can do.

As reported in the Echo, Rodgers told a packed house at this morning’s press conference that, unlike other academy prospects before him, he sees no need for Rossiter to temporarily leave the club.

“I think there will be one or two who will go out on loan,” said Rodgers.

But Jordan Rossiter has moved up here into the first-team dressing room and is a valuable player for our squad at such a young age. He’s got maturity and he is one that will be staying here. We’ve got the Europe League and the cup games.

This will be seen as an unusual step by Rodgers, as history has shown that it’s very rare that players come through the ranks at Liverpool without a stint at another club further down the leagues.

The last player to see the transition directly from the academy to first-team was Raheem Sterling, a player who went on to light up Anfield, if only for a few seasons.

By sounding out the England youth international in this way, the Liverpool manager is giving Rossiter both his full confidence and the motivation to continue his fine form at the academy.

Liverpool’s season will become more and more intense, with the Europa League and League Cup becoming a priority coupled with a run in the FA cup seemingly a likely target.

All of this comes off the back of needing a good season in the Premier League, with Rodgers showing he is ready to give youth a chance once again to help Liverpool succeed this year.
