Souness: Liverpool’s players are ‘too samey’

Former Liverpool midfielder and manager Graeme Souness has branded Liverpool’s attacking players as “too samey” and believes that it will take Jurgen Klopp time to turn things around at Anfield.

Souness, speaking on Sky Sports’ Super Sunday, said:

The biggest problem is this is the group he’s got. At Liverpool, he will be given the time to get it right but it’s not a quick fix. He’ll know their limitations, the players are too samey. They all come towards the ball. It’s a difficult job he’s got on his hands.

Liverpool have drawn all three of their games since Klopp took over as manager and have drawn eight of their last nine games in all competitions, so the fans will be eager to see them start winning matches under the new manager.

However, Souness, who managed Liverpool between 1991 and 1994, thinks that the new boss will need time to assess his squad before deciding on what he wants to do in the January transfer window.

Between now and Christmas it’s about assessing what he has and hasn’t got.

Souness also spoke negatively about some of Liverpool’s recent buys and encouraged the club’s owners to spend on transfers as he thinks they will not generate enough money from sales to re-invest in the squad.

The players that have arrived in recent history are not going to get too much in resale value so the owners have to put their hands in their pockets again.
