The Echo reports this Sunday evening that Kevin Stewart, the Liverpool midfielder on loan at Swindon Town, will return to Anfield after sustaining medial ligament damage that is set to rule the player our for at least six week.
The injury, sustained during the Football League Trophy game against Newport County, comes as a blow to Swindon, as the 21-year-old was seen as a versatile and useful member of their first-team squad.
“We’ll see. We’ll have a chat with Liverpool and see what they want to do,” said Mark Cooper, Swindon manager. “Brendan was here today so we’ll see what they want to do.
“He’s a good player, Kev. He can play in a lot of positions, so we’ll have to make do.”
Stewart, who was joined on loan at Swindon by Laurence Vigaroux and Jordan Williams, will return to Anfield to seek further attention from the club’s medical staff.
This will be seen as a bitter blow for a player who was supposed to be with Swindon for the full season ahead.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers was on hand to see Swindon beat Crewe this weekend, in a game that was absent of Williams, who was with Wales on international duty.
It is yet to be seen if Stewart will return to Swindon, but all will depend on the outcome of assessment by Liverpool’s medical staff.
