Daniel Sturridge says he has taken it upon himself to be a mentor to young Liverpool winger Jordon Ibe.
Sturridge, who was an unused substitute for Liverpool’s comprehensive victory over Manchester City, says he didn’t have any experienced players to help guide whim when he was Ibe’s age, so he’s chosen to give the 19-year-old somebody to look up to.
I’ve got a lot of love for [Ibe], I’ve taken him under my wing.
When I was his age, I didn’t necessarily have a player who would have me every single day, push me and make me improve as a footballer. That’s what I try to do with him.
The England striker will be eager to return to action with the Reds. He’s not yet featured under new manager Jurgen Klopp after a clash in training with Ibe led to a knee injury which has kept him out longer than expected.

Speaking of the incident, Sturridge says he holds no grudges and even joked about what went on.
He tries to claim it wasn’t him. We both know!
Banter aside, that’s my brother, and unfortunate incidents occur in training. It is what it is, it’s a game situation on the training pitch.
Sturridge also spoke about the impact that Klopp has had in his short spell at the club and how impressed he’s been with the new manager since his arrival.
He came in during the first week in which I was training, he put his style on us straight away and he trains you exactly how he wants you to play.
He’s very involved, all action, very intense and wants you to perform at your best level in training every day.
That’s what everyone does on the training pitch, give 100%, and we go into the game with the same mentality.
