Neil Warnock, former Crystal Palace and Sheffield United manager is currently taking some downtime from football after leaving Selhurst Park last year, but it seems like he has been doing anything other than brushing up on his football knowledge this summer, as proven in a talkSPORT interview that took place on Thursday.
Warnock, who is known for his outrageous temper in post-match interviews during his career, may look to step back into the hole from where he came once he re-reads his quotes that were reported in The Mirror today.
Whilst giving his expert (if expert now means unsuccessful and irrelevant) opinion on tomorrow night’s first Friday night football of the season, the 66-year-old veteran was quoted as saying that he hoped now Liverpool striker Christian Benteke starts for Aston Villa against Manchester United, in the faint hope that he can cause the Manchester club some problems.
“I do hope Benteke starts to get like he can do,” said Warnock.
“Tim has worked really hard getting players in and I want to see the place bouncing.”
Well, that’s all well and good, Neil, but Benteke is a Red now.
Never fear, however, as Sherwood could call upon one of his other star strikers to fill the void. Rumours that Juan Pablo Angel is close to a recall are wide of the mark at present, yet former Liverpool forward Milan Baros is odds on favourite to start up front for the Villans.
