Only one day after Iago Aspas was sent on loan to Sevilla, Brendan Rodgers sent Andre Wisdom to West Bromwich Albion on 22nd July 2014.
The 21-year-old defender made his debut for the Baggies in a 3-1 away victory over Sacramento Republic in America, playing the full match.
Wisdom also started and played the full match in a 3-1 home defeat to Porto in the pre-season. The Englishman looked sluggish as his opponent, Jackson Martínez, scored two goals.
However, Wisdom started and played the full match in West Brom’s first six matches of the Premier League season. The Baggies only lost two matches in this six match stretch; a tough 3-0 away defeat to Swansea in which Wisdom was not involved with any of the goals, and a 2-0 home defeat to Everton in which Wisdom lost his man for the Toffees’ second goal.
In this six match stretch, Wisdom was part of an impressive 1-0 away victory over Tottenham. In a victory over Oxford United in the League Cup, Wisdom had a cross which forced an Oxford defender to score an own goal. In that same match, Wisdom converted a penalty in a shootout to help his side win the tie.
Wisdom has started and played the full match for the Baggies in their last 15 league matches (excluding the Liverpool match), only missing two League Cup matches and an FA Cup match.
Of the 15 league games, West Brom have lost seven matches and only won four. In those seven losses, West Brom have conceded 15 goals.
In a home match against Arsenal, Wisdom was beaten down the line by Santi Cazorla in the dying minutes, who crossed it into Danny Welbeck’s head and into the back of the net.
Although West Brom currently sit 15th in the table, Wisdom has played a lot of minutes. Over his 21 appearances for West Brom in all competitions since his arrival in late July, Wisdom has racked up 1,920 minutes of playing time (roughly 21 full matches).
When Wisdom returns to Liverpool in the summer, will he still have a part in the squad?
