Liverpool have already brought in one dynamic winger this summer with the £39m signing of Mohamed Salah from Roma, but could they be about to double down on wide players?
Portuguese source A Bola, as cited by Sport Witness, report that Liverpool are the only club to make ‘concrete offers’ for Sporting’s star winger Gelson Martins, with their second bid, in the region of €50m (£44m), still on the table.
The Reds were linked with a move for the Portugal international forward earlier in the summer, but it seems they have now firmed up their interest.
Sporting manager Jorge Jesus has been in contact with Martins during his holidays trying to convince the attacker to stay with the Liga NOS side for one more season, snubbing interest from Liverpool in the process.
It’s believed that Sporting will be turning down offers that fall short of Martins’ €60m (£53m) release clause, so if Liverpool are ready to sign the player they will need to up their bid.
Martins scored seven goals and provided 14 assists last season and the 22-year-old forward has also been linked with Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester United.
