Liverpool are no closer to bringing in a pacey winger to complement Sadio Mane as they were this time last week, but they have seemingly narrowed down their options to two players.
Roma star Mohamed Salah is the favourite to join the Reds, but a deal with the Serie A side for his transfer is proving to be difficult to agree, and if no deal is struck then Liverpool could move for Sporting attacker Gelson Martins.
According to A Bola, Liverpool have told Sporting they are ready to pay £44m in order to land the winger this summer, and it seems to be an either or scenario with Salah.
Martins scored six goals and provided 14 assists in 32 Liga NOS games last season and has cemented a place in the Portugal national squad in the process.
After having an opening bid rejected for the 22-year-old, Liverpool chiefs will sit down with Sporting president Bruno de Carvalho soon to discuss a second bid.
Liverpool are determined to land either Salah or Martins this summer and it’s encouraging to see them persevering with deals for both at this stage.
