Riding a crest of confidence, Liverpool arrived in Germany. In the first trip to his homeland in charge of the Reds, manager Jurgen Klopp left unsatisfied with a 0-0 draw against Augsburg.
The advantage still remains with Liverpool for the second leg match at Anfield. However, the Reds missed an opportunity to turn the screw in their first Europa League action of the new year. Still, a clean sheet draw in an away match on the Continent would not have been so dismal had the performance shown more signs of life.
In a fairly drab display, the match provided yet another reminder of just how little Liverpool’s best XI have been on the same pitch together. This was as close as it has been and it still requires some minor tweaks.
