Four Findings: Exeter City 2-2 Liverpool

Liverpool continued to make things just that bit harder for themselves in the third round of the FA Cup. An exceptionally inexperienced visiting side took to the treacherous pitch at St. James Park and, fortunately, scraped a 2-2 draw with League Two hosts Exeter City.

Even under the circumstances, Jurgen Klopp took a significant gamble in resting nine first team players. Only Christian Benteke, Adam Bogdan, and long-lost Jose Enrique were the senior starters while five players were given debut appearances before the final whistle. It nearly caused the club to crash out of the tournament.

Little care would have been given to the 13 players injured or the packed fixture list. Were it not for Brad Smith’s 73rd-minute equaliser, a fury would have been unleashed for losing to club three divisions lower. Now Exeter will visit Anfield at the month’s end for a replay.

Here are four findings from the match.
