Liverpool’s remit was simple enough. Having already secured passage to the next round of the Europa League, the Reds needed to get out of Switzerland unscathed, without losing. Mission accomplished, as Liverpool drew with FC Sion 0-0.
Far from the most entertaining or exciting match, the circumstances suggested a draw from the opening whistle. The result earned Liverpool the top spot in the group and assured Sion a second place advancement. Of course, Sion could have overtaken the Reds as group leaders, but their recent form suggested that was unlikely.
