Liverpool’s away form faltered unspectacularly, as the Reds fell 2-0 to Newcastle United at St. James’ Park. The relegation-ready home side showed more fight than they have in weeks to end the Merseysiders’ run of wins and increasingly stronger performances.
Liverpool’s luck also ran aground. An unfortunate Martin Skrtel own goal and poor offside decision that cancelled out what would have been an exquisite Alberto Moreno equaliser balanced fortune’s scales a bit. Add to that, Christian Benteke missing Liverpool’s best chance and a late counterattack when Liverpool pushed for a leveller, the feel good momentum the Reds had been riding unraveled.
It was by far the worst performance since Jurgen Klopp took over the club. Given the fact that Manchester City, Chelsea, Tottenham, and Manchester United all stumbled and went winless, it also was a significant opportunity missed.
Here are four findings from the match.
