Alarming statistics highlight Roberto Firmino’s current struggles at Liverpool

Roberto Firmino‘s current struggles have been highlighted by some alarming statistics that arose over the weekend.

Jurgen Klopp showed faith in the Brazilian on Sunday, starting him alongside Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Diogo Jota in Liverpool’s 1-1 draw away to Manchester City.

Firmino again struggled to have an impact on the game, however, with too many poor decisions made and his touch often nowhere near its best.

During the game, Twitter account FootballFunnys (@FootballFunnnys) posted a couple of statistics summing up the 29-year-old’s current woes. It stated that Firmino has not had a single shot on target for four Premier League matches in a row, also failing to create a chance in three games this season:

Watching Firmino at the moment is rather painful, with the Liverpool striker a man completely devoid of confidence. The statistics are frank proof of how badly out of form he has fallen.

He looks as though he is over-thinking every decision, while his all-round quality and workrate are far from their usual standard. There must now be serious question marks about his place in the team, especially if Klopp reverts to a 4-3-3 formation.

Jota was quiet in a right-sided role which didn’t seem to suit him, and at the moment, it makes more sense to play him in his preferred left-sided or central position, with Firmino making way for a midfielder.

At 29, the hope is that this is just a blip rather than something more, but Firmino has been disappointing for much of 2020.
