Alisson hails Fabinho as Liverpool’s most important player

Alisson has hailed Fabinho as Liverpool’s most important player, which may come as a surprise to some.

The Brazilian has been a superb signing since arriving from Monaco in 2018, mastering the holding midfield role in front of the defence.

Fabinho actually took a while to adjust to Jurgen Klopp’s system before becoming a key figure during both Liverpool’s Champions League and Premier League successes.

The 27-year-old is an unsung player in many ways, but someone who values him massively is Alisson. Speaking to Globo Esporte, the Liverpool goalkeeper outlined why his compatriot is the Reds’ key man, as well as Brazil’s:

I believe that Fabinho is the most important player for both the club and the national team.

He is a very important player wherever he is, he always proves his worth on the pitch.

He had been playing for Van Dijk and, unfortunately, with his injury he has been missing for Brazil too.

He can play as a number six, as a defender, he was a wide player in the past and these characteristics bring even more value to him.

It is a huge call from Alisson, considering how many world-class players there are in the Liverpool squad.

The likes of Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane are all among the best players in the world in their positions, while captain Jordan Henderson has become an immensely important figure in the midfield.

It is easy to see Alisson’s argument for Fabinho, though, given the manner in which he quietly but brilliantly goes about his duties. He is classy on the ball, relentless of it, strong in the air and hugely versatile, all of which make him a formidable footballer.
