Mario Balotelli may set to be offered a life line and a return to his homeland from Italian Giants Juventus. Italian daily Newspaper Tuttosport have a front page special suggesting Juventus could be the new surprise suitors for Balotelli, who has failed to impress at Anfield.
Brendan Rodgers knew he was taking a gamble on the Italian front man back in the summer, but many thought if Balotelli’s off field antics could be managed, then it would have been gamble worth taking. However since arriving on Merseyside in the summer, it has not been the side show that normally follows Super Mario, but the lack of success on the field.
Tuttosport are reporting that Balotelli’s agent, Mino Raiola, has already spoken with the Old Lady and manager Massimiliano Allegri is thought be keen to get a deal done. Allegri is arguably the only manager to get the best out of Balotelli when the pair were at A.C. Milan together up until last season. Until Allegri was released from Milan, Balotelli was playing his most consistent football in his short career and that earned him a second shot at the Premier League with Liverpool.
Allegri spoke with Italian reporters on Saturday:
“I’ve had him with me and he had a very good season. Mario has built a character out of the world of football which attracts most of the attention, but he has excellent quality, although he must prove it.”
“Would I have him back? I like to have better players”
Juventus may not be Balotelli’s only chance to return back to Italy. The Mail Online yesterday reported that Liverpool have shown an interest in Sampdoria goalkeeper Sergio Romero, and with Sampdoria recently selling striker Manolo Gabbiadini to Napoli, it could be in both clubs interest do a deal this month.
Brendan Rodgers himself will be keen to address his sides lack of goal this season, but with being told that Balotelli must be sold before he can act, this situation would help the Northern Irish man with his goal.
The Mail Online are also reporting that given former Liverpool manger Rafael Benitez’s recent purchase of Sampdoria striker Gabbiadini, Argentine striker Gonzalo Higuain has just become a more possible target. It seems Liverpool have been linked with the former Real Madrid man in every window since Torres’ departure, but Rob Sheppard at the Mail Online believes that Liverpool’s American owners may be willing to pay as much as £30m this month.
