Bayer Leverkusen join race for Liverpool target Max Kruse

Liverpool face competition from Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen in the race to land soon to be free agent Max Kruse.

According to German media outlet Kicker, relayed in an article by Inside Futbol, Leverkusen are looking at Kruse as a replacement for Julian Brandt, who completed his move to Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday.

The Reds have also been linked with a move for the 31-year-old in recent days, with boss Jurgen Klopp viewing the striker as an ideal back-up option at Anfield.

The former German international has plied his trade with Werder Bremen for the last three years, however, the forward recently announced he will be ending his association with the club in the summer when his deal expires.

Liverpool are expected to lose both Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi over the summer, so the Reds may well choose to rival Leverkusen until the very end in the race for Kruse’s services next season.
