Meanwhile, Rummenigge, the third-top scorer in Bundesliga history, described him as a “great loss”.

While Thiago is no doubt a huge loss for Bayern, any talk of him heading back to the Allianz Arena is wide of the mark.

The Spain international looks perfectly happy at Liverpool and some of the reaction to his performances has been bordering on ludicrous.

Thiago may not be producing world-class displays for the Reds yet, but he is still finding full sharpness and has come into a side low on confidence and with the likes of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson playing at centre-back.

He impressed against RB Leipzig, completing 93 percent of his passes and winning six out of his eight duels, and will continue to be a key performer moving forward.
