Borini wants Liverpool stay

Fabio Borini has insisted that he still believes he has something to offer Brendan Rodgers and is adamant staying at Liverpool was the correct decision, ruling out any January switch.

The Italian, who was Rodgers’ first signing at the club back in 2012, has found life at Anfield difficult so far, failing to cement his position as a first team regular.

The forward rejected two different offers to move away from Liverpool in the summer with the club agreeing deals with both Sunderland, whom he spent last season on loan with, and Queens Park Rangers. only for Borini to turn those moves down.

But now midway through the campaign Borini has told The Liverpool Echo that he does not regret staying put and cited European football as a pivotal reason in his decision.

“I wanted to play in the Champions League and in the biggest European competitions.”

“The reason I said no to the clubs who wanted to sign me was that I wanted to play for a top four club,” he said.

“That’s why I decided to stay at Liverpool. I have no regrets. This is what I want.”

“I won’t be leaving this month either. I started the last game and I don’t see any reason why I would need to change clubs. I see it as all positive for me.”

So far this season Borini has only made 13 appearances for the club in all competitions, failing to score a goal. But despite seeing little action in a red shirt he is content with his performances so far.

“To be honest, going back to last summer, I didn’t expect to play as much as I have done.”

“With Daniel Sturridge’s injuries, I’ve played more than I expected. I think I’ve done okay. I probably should have scored a couple of goals from the few chances I’ve had but I’m quite happy with my season so far.”

Borini was blighted by injuries in his first year at the club and was shipped out to Sunderland last season as Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez proved unbeatable competition at the top end of the pitch. The Italian has also admitted his career at Liverpool has failed to take off but believes this year is his opportunity to shine.

“I’ve never had a full season here. In my first year here I was unlucky with injuries. I wasn’t able to really prove myself and then in the second year I went out on loan.” the forward said.”

“This is really the season for me. Yes, I haven’t played much, I don’t know why, but that’s not up to me.”
