Christian Falk confirms Liverpool target David Alaba is still available

Reputable journalist Christian Falk has confirmed Bayern Munich defender David Alaba remains available on a free transfer this summer having yet to find a new club.

The Austrian is reportedly wanted by Liverpool, Real Madrid, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain, with the La Liga side thought to be the closest to making the deal happen.

However, Falk has confirmed the 28-year-old hasn’t sealed his destination for next season and talks remain ongoing having recently made public his intentions to leave the current European and World champions.

Despite Alaba’s impending departure, the experienced Austria international remains a crucial part of the Bayern side, appearing 32 times in all competitions this term.

Liverpool’s hopes of signing Alaba live on – and what a bonus it would be.

With additional cover required both defensively and in the midfield ranks, particularly should Gini Wijnaldum leave, the 76-cap superstar can provide the versatility to cover both departments and would offer Jurgen Klopp immense flexibility moving forwards.

Still valued at a staggering £49.5m by Transfermarkt, whoever lands Alaba for nothing this summer is going to pull off one of the greatest coups in recent times.

Worryingly, Falk’s admission that Real Madrid have been unable to offer enough in wages doesn’t bode well for the Reds, although no figures are mentioned.
