Diogo Jota’s former teammate tips him to leave Liverpool

Diogo Jota has been tipped to leave Liverpool in the not-too-distant future, despite only joining in the summer transfer window.

The Portuguese forward completed a move from Wolves back in September, costing the Reds £41m.

He has made a stunning start to life at Anfield, scoring eight goals in 12 appearances, including a hat-trick away to Atalanta in the Champions League.

The hope is that Jota remains a Liverpool player for many years, potentially being a long-term replacement for the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

According to his former Pacos de Ferreira teammate Stephen Eustaquio, however – in an interview with La Vanguardia [via Daily Express] – Jota will eye up a new challenge at some point:

Jota was in Pacos, Atletico Madrid, Porto, Liverpool. He works a lot.

He is a very hard-working person, very delicate with the ball; he plays a lot. He is not going to stay there; he is going to go higher.

I shared a dressing room with him, he was captain of the Portugal Under-21 team.

It would be a huge surprise if Liverpool decided to part ways with Jota any time soon, with the 23-year-old surely a long-term addition. He is five years younger than both Salah and Mane, so having him until he is at least a similar age makes perfect sense.

Jurgen Klopp will look to build another great team to follow this one as key players naturally age, and Jota looks a huge part of that next process. If he keeps delivering at such a relentless rate, though, don’t be surprised to see some of Europe’s other top clubs circling like vultures.
