Dominik Szoboszlai issues Anfield warning to PSG as iconic Liverpool comeback eyed

  • Liverpool lost 2-0 against Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie
  • All eyes are now on the return leg at Anfield next Tuesday
  • Dominik Szoboszlai is excited about the prospect of being part of an iconic comeback

Dominik Szoboszlai has issued a rallying cry to Liverpool fans after their quarter final first leg 2-0 defeat against Paris Saint Germain on Wednesday, 8 April.

The Reds faced the Ligue 1 giants in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday.

Having already been embarrassed by Manchester City at the weekend, Arne Slot seemingly focused on damage control in Paris, setting his team up in a back-three formation.

This saw the Merseyside-based club take a pragmatic approach, sitting back, ceding possession and relying on long throws to limit the hosts.

It all went in vain, as PSG still managed to score two goals and take a comfortable lead in the tie.

Liverpool have Giorgi Mamardashvili to thank, as the Georgian made five saves, as well as Ousmane Dembele, who missed two great chances.

Meanwhile, Slot’s men failed to register even a single shot on target.

Szoboszlai cannot wait for ‘special’ Anfield night

All is not lost for Liverpool, as they have the opportunity to turn things around when PSG visit Anfield in the return leg next Tuesday, 14 April.

Looking ahead to next week’s clash, Szoboszlai claimed that the Reds will look like a completely different team, backed by the whole stadium.

The Hungarian described Champions League nights at Anfield as ‘special’ and expressed his desire to be a part of an iconic Liverpool comeback, having seen some of the senior players in the squad already do it.

He said in a post-match interview: “There is going to be a completely different plan, I think, a different team, stadium, atmosphere. What’s going to be with us? We’re not going to be only 11 players; we are going to be the whole stadium. I can’t really wait for it because these nights at Anfield are always special. The guys who have been here a long time have shown that they can turn around games like this, and I want to be a part of them. We will be ready, for sure.”

Liverpool need more than Anfield to beat PSG

Szoboszlai is right. Champions League nights at Anfield are special. Ask Barcelona.

However, this time will be different. With Slot’s tactics becoming increasingly uninspiring and the players showing little fight, it is hard to see the Anfield crowd give them an extra push next Tuesday.

If the team want the Liverpool fans to be in full force against PSG, they need to give them something to believe in when Fulham visit Anfield on Saturday, 11 April.
