European clubs interested in signing Emre Can

A number of European clubs are keeping a close eye on Emre Can’s contract dispute and weighing up a possible summer move for the Liverpool midfielder, the Daily Mirror reports.

Can was offered a new deal at the beginning of the year but talks have since stalled over the 23-year old’s wage demands, with his agent allegedly looking to double the player’s £35,000 salary.

With Can set to enter the final year of his contract, Liverpool will likely be forced into a sale if no agreement can be reached for fear of losing the young German to a free transfer.

Can has faced criticism from some Reds fans this term, with many suggesting he is ill-suited to the unique style Jurgen Klopp is looking to impose at Anfield.

Nonetheless, it is understood that the midfielder still has many admirers in his homeland, having earned seven senior caps for his country.

Juventus, RB Leipzig, Hoffenheim and former club Bayer Leverkusen are said to be among those eager to swoop in if the two parties cannot move past the present stalemate.

Liverpool are expected to return to the negotiating table with an improved offer, but are not willing to be bullied into his meeting his lofty demands.

Should the Reds lose Can, Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita has been mooted as a potential option as he enjoys a mightily-impressive campaign with the Bundesliga high-flyers.
