It is a significant piece of news for Liverpool, with Robertson’s influence already enormous at the club, since joining from Hull City in 2017.

On the pitch, his performances have seen him become one of the best left-backs in Europe, while off it, his likeable personality has shone through hugely.

Klopp has told https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/334400-jurgen-klopp-andy-robertson-liverpool-contract about his happiness at the news, saying Robertson epitomises what playing for Liverpool means, saying he could easily be a local lad:

I remember when we signed him back in the summer of 2017, I spoke a lot about ‘his story, his journey’ and how much I loved it and thought it pointed to the type of person and player he would be for us.

He has exceeded these expectations.

He might be from Glasgow originally, but everything about him screams Liverpool.

Everyone knows about his personality, on and off the pitch, but maybe we are guilty at times of overlooking his quality.

Ask those who play against him – be it matchday or training – and they speak about his technical and tactical qualities, just as much as his character and heart.

Our supporters have fallen in love with him, he has fallen in love with them – and both he and his amazing young family are very much at home in Liverpool.

It’s fantastic this will now be their home for even longer.

It has been a meteoric rise for Robertson, who has become one of the first names on the team-sheet at one of the world’s biggest clubs in the space of 18 months.

He is also now captain of Scotland, having come such a long way since representing lowly Queen’s Park back in 2012.
