Fabrizio Romano offers key update on new contract for Liverpool’s £75m defensive superstar

Liverpool have done well this summer in securing the futures of their current crop of stars to the club.

The Reds have so far confirmed new long-term contracts for Alisson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Fabinho.

There are still a number of their first-team stars that are yet to sign such as Sadio Mané, Mohamed Salah, and Roberto Firmino.

However, one of the key players at the club that is also yet to sign is Dutch centre-back Virgil van Dijk.

The £75million man signed for the club at the start of 2018 and has become one of our most important players.

Luckily for Reds fans, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has offered a key update on Van Dijk’s contract situation.

Speaking on his Here We Go podcast, Romano stated that Van Dijk is next up for a new contract…

“They are working on new contracts, Alisson, Fabinho, and Alexander-Arnold have now signed, the next one will now be Van Dijk who is another player on the list and they are working on it.”.

It is great to hear that the club are looking at tieing down Van Dijk for the future given his impact at the club.

During his three and a half years at the club, the Dutchman has helped us to Premier League and Champions League glory.

It makes sense for the club to be prepared the defender with a new and improved contract.

Not only this but at 30-years-old, Van Dijk still has plenty of time at the top level and deserves the rewards he has earned.

The longer that Van Dijk is at the club the better and the impact he can have on the likes of Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konaté cannot waver.
