Florian Wirtz and Trey Nyoni say the same thing after Liverpool’s defeat vs Arsenal

It was a tough night for Liverpool as they were beaten 1-0 at home by Arsenal after an intense game of football.

The Reds dominated large parts of the game and came close to scoring a handful of times, but Arsenal defended resolutely to secure their first Premier League win at Anfield since 2012.

They scored an early goal through Kai Havertz and then decided to sit back and protect their lead, which they did so with aplomb.

Speaking after the game, both Florian Wirtz and Trey Nyoni claimed Liverpool were unlucky to walk out of Anfield with nothing to show for their efforts.

Liverpool unlucky on the night vs Arsenal

Wirtz hit the post with a close-range free-kick and tried his best to make things happen before being substituted for Victor Munoz in the second half.

“I don’t think there was a big difference today,” said the German international when asked if there was a gulf of class between the two sides.

“We controlled the game for large periods and perhaps even had the slightly better chances, from what I can remember.

“We played a pretty good game, especially in the first half. We had one or two good chances, as well as a few half-chances where perhaps the final touch wasn’t good enough.

“But ultimately, we conceded a goal and then failed to take the chances we created ourselves.”

Nyoni, on the other hand, overcame a tough start to produce a tidy display on his full Premier League debut.

And the young Englishman, much like Wirtz, felt his side were unlucky on the night.

“We were unlucky today,” said Nyoni via Liverpool’s official website.

“We tried to give everything. Today was just not our day. As I said, we have to move on and think about the next game and put it right.”

Liverpool have successive away games against Fenerbahce and Crystal Palace before the international break and will look to sign off with two wins.
