Former Liverpool man Luis Alberto tipped for move to Everton

Everton are interested in signing former Liverpool midfielder Luis Alberto, according to Il Tempo [via Sport Witness].

The 28-year-old failed to be a success at Anfield, having joined from Sevilla back in 2013.

Alberto did play a small part in Liverpool’s memorable 2013/14 season, however, making 12 appearances in all competitions.

The £45-million-rated Spaniard is now reportedly wanted by Carlo Ancelotti at Everton, in what would be a controversial move on Merseyside.

Ancelotti is in search of a ‘quality midfielder’, and with Alberto having issues at Lazio – he criticised the club’s decision to buy a plane instead of paying players their full wages during the pandemic – so he may decide to move on in January.

He only recently signed a new long-term deal at Lazio, so could cost a hefty sum of money.

While it is easy to mock Everton for potentially signing a Liverpool reject, Alberto has grown as a player since leaving Anfield.

He has matured greatly with Lazio, scoring six goals and registering 15 assists in Serie A last season, proving that he was still just a young prospect when he was in a Reds shirt.

Alberto would add quality to Everton’s midfield, as they try and narrow the gulf in class between themselves and Liverpool.

There is still lots of work to do in that respect, though.
