Grobbelaar urges Reds to sell Sterling

Bruce Grobbelaar has stated that Liverpool should ‘get rid’ of Raheem Sterling.

The former Liverpool goalkeeper has become the latest figure from the football world to voice his opinion on the Sterling’s contract situation.

The 20-year-old has rejected a contract extension with The Reds and has informed the club of his desire to leave. Reports state that he wants to move back to London but it has been Manchester City who have had multiple bids rejected for the pacy player.

The Zimbabwean stopper also spoke about his approval for Brendan Rodgers’ handling of the issue and the purchase of Roberto Firmino. He told Perform:

I think Brendan Rodgers has actually played this very, very well.

“For me, I think Sterling has shot himself in the foot.

“Yes he can play in Europe at City but he’s not going to find it easier playing for City than at Liverpool.

“Having looked at all the trials and tribulations the youngster has caused Liverpool, it’s best to get rid of him.

“He’s shown himself not to be a team player with Liverpool. He wants to go somewhere else, so let him go.

“With the money for him we’ve already acquired a player (Firmino) in a similar position for half his price who scores more goals.”

Liverpool have valued Sterling at £50 million and have so far rejected bid of £30 and £40 million from Manchester City. It is reported that City are preparing another bid, closer to Liverpool’s liking.

Brazilian international Firmino was signed from Hoffenheim for £22 million which could rise to £29 million.
