Liverpool are still on the lookout for signings and are expected to make some big moves in the coming weeks.
Bradley Barcola is locked in talks to sign for the Reds, but a quick resolution is unrealistic due to the finances involved.
Liverpool may also be forced to sign a defender after Andoni Iraola confirmed Joe Gomez’s latest injury blow, with the Englishman set to miss the first few weeks of the new season with a hamstring injury.
Midfield reinforcements may have to wait until the January transfer window at least. In the meantime, it appears as if one of the Reds’ previous transfer targets has agreed a deal to join Brentford.
Former Liverpool target Mamadou Sangare joining Brentford
Yesterday, we wrote on Read Liverpool that Brentford are close to agreeing a deal for Mamadou Sangare, who has earned rave reviews for his performances in France.
The young midfielder was linked with a handful of clubs across the continent, but Brentford have won the race to secure his signature.
Liverpool were also linked with a move for Sangare, but for reasons unspecified, they never launched a move for him.
And now, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the 24-year-old midfielder is set for a medical after Brentford agreed a club-record deal worth £41m to secure his signature.
“Brentford reach verbal agreement to sign Mamadou Sangare, here we go!” wrote Romano on X.
“Sangare set for medical today after £41m deal in place with RC Lens, waiting to sign over the weekend. Club record deal on the way for Brentford.”
Will Sangare be a costly miss for Liverpool – the kind of player they wished they took a punt on? Time will tell, but the Malian midfielder certainly looks like a great talent.
The Reds, however, do have Trey Nyoni coming through the ranks. If he carries on in the same vein, there’s no reason why he won’t become a useful squad player at the very least under Iraola this season.
