Former AC Milan striker Hernan Crespo has been discussing the ‘open wound’ that still exists whenever it comes to Liverpool.
The 46-year-old was on the pitch during that famous night in Istanbul when the Reds came from 3-0 down at half-time to lift the UEFA Champions League trophy.
Now dubbed the ‘Miracle of Istanbul’, Crespo must’ve thought a first-half brace had all but secured glory.
However, Rafa Benitez’ side weren’t easily beaten and driven on by Steven Gerrard, Liverpool completed a remarkable comeback.
Capped a staggering 64 times by Argentina, Crespo has been speaking about the fixture after the two European giants were drawn alongside one another in Group B.
It’s still an open wound for me, Liverpool-Milan is the first game Champions League game this season, and you already know what it means to me. I had scored a brace in the first half, I have never forgotten that night and even though Milan already beat Liverpool in the 2007 Final, I’m asking Pioli’s men to beat them at Anfield, get the revenge for me and show who Milan are.
Liverpool will welcome Milan to Anfield for the first time on September 15 as this seasons Champions League campaign gets underway.
Ahead of the meeting, Jurgen Klopp was handed a small boost as ex-Arsenal and Chelsea striker, Olivier Giroud, faces a race against time to be available having tested positive for Covid-19.

Whilst a lot has happened to both clubs in the 26 years since that night, clearly, Crespo remains scarred by the events.
Although the Rossoneri got their revenge in Athens 24 months later, the Argentine was a Chelsea player by then and unable to basque in the glory.
Liverpool will also face Atletico Madrid and FC Porto in what looks to be a difficult group on paper.
