Florian Wirtz took centre stage for Liverpool as they secured a 2-0 win against Brighton at Anfield.
The German international’s deflected effort broke the deadlock on the night, although it later went down as a Pascal Gross own goal.
Nevertheless, Wirtz endured another fantastic display as Liverpool’s No.10 as he continues his rich vein of form after the international break.
Speaking after the game, he provided an update on the ankle injury that led to his substitution in the second half.
Florian Wirtz allays Liverpool injury fears
Wirtz took a blow to his ankle while trying to win the ball back for Liverpool and was substituted shortly afterwards.
However, he admitted after the game that it doesn’t look serious.
“I think it should be alright,” said Wirtz after the game. “It’s not too bad. I don’t know much yet, we have to check it, but it won’t be long.”
The German also claimed that he is loving life at the moment as he continues to remain in the thick of the action for Liverpool after a slow start to the season.
“It’s really enjoyable. I think many things weren’t so good in the last month, so I’m even happier that it’s going well at the moment.
“We are on the right track to get where we want to be. We should keep going like that.
“We had the right mentality today. In the first half, or the first 30 minutes, we were on top of them and really good in the duels, creating a lot of chances.”
Liverpool are a much better team with Wirtz and need him for the long haul, so it could make sense to rest him for Chelsea before unleashing him at the weekend vs Arsenal.
