James Pearce reveals when Thiago is expected to play for Liverpool again

Thiago will likely be involved in one of Liverpool’s upcoming matches against Newcastle United or Southampton, according to The Athletic‘s James Pearce.

The Spaniard was such an exciting signing when he arrived from Bayern Munich in the summer, but it has been a deeply frustrating start for him at Anfield.

Thiago has still played just 135 minutes of action, only featuring in the win away to Chelsea and draw at Everton.

The 29-year-old is nearing a long-awaited return from injury, however, and it may well arrive in the coming days.

Speaking in a Q&A on Sunday, Pearce claimed either Wednesday’s trip to Newcastle or next Monday’s away clash with Southampton could see Thiago back in the fold:

Thiago hasn’t trained enough yet to be considered for selection after so long out. It is more likely we [will] see him involved vs either Newcastle or Southampton.

Thiago has almost become a forgotten man this season, considering how little he has played for Liverpool so far.

It is easy to forget what a special player he is, and he has the ability to take the Reds to an even higher level.

His guile and ability to dictate matches is the one thing Liverpool’s other midfielders lack, with Thiago arguably one of the most gifted technical midfielders of his generation.

He is a joy to watch in the middle of the park, so the hope is that we see him as early as Wednesday, as the Reds look to bounce back from the disappointment of drawing at home to West Brom.
