Jamie Carragher lauds ‘frightening’ Mohamed Salah

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has hailed the ‘frightening’ form of winger Mohamed Salah

The 29-year-old was on the scoresheet twice as the Reds swept aside FC Porto 5-1 in Portugal.

That result left Jurgen Klopp’s side clear at the top of Group B and saw Salah reach eight goals in eight appearances this season.

Speaking on CBS Sports on Paramount+ (28/09/21 at 10:45 pm), Carragher couldn’t hold back the love for the Egyptian.

Mo Salah, I mean we know how great of a goalscorer he is. But the form he is in is frightening, at the minute. Sadio Mane, at times, has blown a little bit hot and cold, so it’s really nice for him to get back on the scoresheet. But Salah, I think he’s very close to breaking Steven Gerrard’s record in Europe. I think that will be broken in the next couple of games, you would imagine.

Salah equalled Steven Gerrard’s record for European goals at Anfield with a second-half strike against AC Milan and needs just three more strikes to surpass the legend’s 30 Champions League goals for the club.

Few could argue that the ‘Egyptian King’ is currently amongst the very best players in world football.

A remarkable goalscorer for both club and country, even the most strident anti-Salah supporter would concede the £90million valued star is proving everyone wrong.

If the likes of Diogo Jota, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino can click around him, this season could be one of major success at Anfield.

One issue arising from the victory in Portugal was the absence of Trent Alexander-Arnold, with the influential right-back likely to miss the crunch clash against Manchester City on Sunday.
