Jamie Redknapp backs criticised Thiago to come good for Liverpool

Former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp has backed Thiago Alcantara to come good after the Spaniard netted his first goal for the club.

The former Bayern Munich man fired home a powerful long-range effort to secure an important three points for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Despite arriving with all the furore of an elite signing, Thiago has struggled to show his best form on Merseyside.

Badly disrupted by injury, rotation and an adaptation period, there is no doubt the 30-year-old is yet to reach the heights expected following his £20million move (BBC).

However, speaking during Sky Sports‘ coverage last night, as cited by Football Daily on Twitter, Redknapp has thrown his weight of support behind Thiago.

Capped 41 times by Spain, the £31.5million valued cultured midfielder has earned an average Sofascore rating of 7.11 this season – including a 7.60 rating against Southampton on Saturday night.

There can be no doubting Thiago’s quality, given all the accolades earned during an illustrious career.

Taking all the caveats into consideration, including a knee injury suffered in the Merseyside derby that ruled him out for almost four months, the Spaniard more or less can be given a free pass.

Next season when a host of key players return and having had time to adapt, Kopites will be hopeful of seeing the very best of Thiago.

matchday.
