Journalist Oliver Holt is spot on about the current argument regarding Mohamed Salah‘s apparent diving.
The Liverpool superstar has found himself in the headlines yet again after winning a penalty against West Ham last weekend, having been kicked by Arthur Masuaku in the Reds’ 2-1 win at Anfield.
Many felt Salah went down too easily and essentially cheated, whereas the following day, almost nothing was made of Harry Kane winning a cheap penalty and also diving later in Tottenham’s win at home to against Brighton.
Speaking on talkSPORT, renowned journalist Holt defended Salah, suggesting the language used between him and English players is unfairly different:
“It’s interesting the different language used [between Salah & Kane].”
“The Salah one is ‘cheat! cheat!”
“For Kane it’s ‘clever’, ‘he earned it’, ‘that’s what you have to do’.”

Holt absolutely nails the issue, with Salah treated so unfairly in comparison to Kane, who appears to be using his status as England captain to be the media’s golden boy.
Yes, Salah made the most of the contact from Masuaku, but it was still a foul; and if staying up had robbed him of winning a deserved spot-kick, surely going down makes more sense.
It’s a shame that modern football works like that, but the Liverpool forward is just one of hundreds who will fall if contact is made, just as Callum Wilson did for Newcastle against Everton on Sunday.
Few are better at it than Kane, but when do you ever hear dissenting voices in his direction?
