Jurgen Klopp reveals Gini Wijnaldum’s brilliant comments before Spurs win

Jurgen Klopp has revealed the brilliant team talk Gini Wijnaldum gave before Liverpool’s win over Tottenham.

The Reds beat Jose Mourinho’s side 2-1 at Anfield on Wednesday night, leapfrogging them in the Premier League table and going three points clear at the top.

Wijnaldum was again excellent in the middle of the park, as he continues his superb start to the season.

Speaking in his pre-Crystal Palace press conference on Friday, Klopp revealed how the Dutchman demanded Liverpool avoided a repeat of their slow start against Fulham last weekend:

Before the Tottenham game, Gini was in the dressing room shouting: ‘Don’t let us waste the first half again!’

Wijnaldum surely has to be considered a Liverpool legend, having achieved so much in four-and-a-half years at the club.

The 30-year-old is a Champions League and Premier League winner, and he has been such a consistent performer in the middle of the park, doing an understated job to perfection.

On top of that, Wijnaldum is a leader, as highlighted by his comments before the Spurs game.

If he does leave next summer – he will hopefully sign a new deal at Liverpool – he will be sorely missed.
