Klopp plays down Henderson injury fears

Jurgen Klopp is hopeful that the injury suffered by Jordan Henderson against Bayern Munich is not serious.

Liverpool secured a superb 3-1 victory at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday night, reaching the Champions League quarter-finals in the process.

They lost Henderson to a twisted ankle early on, however, despite the captain’s efforts to persevere.

With Naby Keita already missing, the Reds can do without more injuries in the middle of the park, ahead of a vital two months in the season.

Speaking to BT Sport after the game, Klopp said he doesn’t believe Henderson’s injury is too problematic:

Losing Hendo so early with a twisted ankle [was not good], hopefully, it’s not too serious.

He couldn’t stop [his own movement] anymore, he tried it. [It was] not too cool, so we had to make the early change.

It was a memorable Champions League night for Liverpool, who didn’t always hit top gear but controlled matters against Bayern.

Sadio Mane’s double and Virgil van Dijk’s bullet header were enough to get them over the line, despite Joel Matip’s own goal.

They will find out who they face in the quarters on Friday, with Manchester City, Tottenham, Manchester United, Juventus, Bayern Munich, Ajax or Porto their opponents.
