Lazio will be stepping up their pursuit of out-of-favour Liverpool forward Fabio Borini, according to Italian daily publication Gazetta dello Sport.
After securing Champions League qualification with a 4-2 win against Napoli last weekend, Lazio can now begin to strengthen their squad in preparation for their forthcoming European campaign, and it is understood that Borini is one of their main targets.
The Italian was one of Brendan Rodgers’ first signings but he failed to hit the ground running and spent last season on loan at Sunderland.
This season, he has been surplus to requirements despite the collective failings of the other Liverpool strikers.
With time still on his side, a move back to his homeland may invigorate the 24-year-old’s career and possibly help him earn a recall to the Italian national team.
Borini has experience of playing in the Seria A with Roma, for whom he scored nine goals in one season.
This time it’s their local rivals, Lazio, who want to sign the striker.
