Liverpool are still interested in Dominik Szoboszlai

Earlier this year, Liverpool were linked with a move for RB Salzburg star Dominik Szoboszlai and according to reports from Italy, The Reds are still interested in signing the teenager, but they will now face competition from both AC Milan and Lazio.

Plenty of Liverpool fans will have already seen the 19-year-old live in person as he played 71 minutes at Anfield earlier this season as his Salzburg side were beaten 4-3 by the Reds in a memorable Champions League clash.

The Reds signed Szoboszlai’s former Salzburg teammate Takumi Minamino in January, and if they do decide to complete a deal for Szoboszlai, he’ll become the fourth Reds’ star to arrive at Anfield via the Austrian giants, after the Japanese star, Sadio Mane and Naby Keita.

Whether Liverpool will be willing to spend much money this summer remains to be seen, but if they do, it might be wise for them to do so on a younger player, who will cost a lot less than the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Jadon Sancho, both of whom are reported targets for the Reds.

Whilst those two players would almost certainly cost in excess of £100m each, Szoboszlai is said to be valued at around £35m by his Austrian club, so Liverpool could save a lot of money by targeting him.

Although he’s only 19, Szoboszlai is highly-experienced. He’s made eight appearances for Hungary, and he’s also a regular in the Salzburg team.

In what is certain to be a new era of football post-pandemic, signing young players may become the new norm for top sides as they look to regroup financially and as such, it would not be a surprise to see more clubs join any race for Szoboszlai.
