Liverpool are still looking for signings, says Klopp

Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Liverpool are still active in the summer transfer window.

The Reds have had a quiet summer after their Champions League success, with just one player brought in.

That was young Dutch centre-back Sepp van den Berg, who at 17, is more of a long-term acquisition.

Supporters have been left frustrated by Liverpool’s lack of activity, with concerns about the club not kicking on after sealing European glory.

Klopp has allayed those fears, however, telling the Liverpool Echo that the intention is still to potentially bring in new faces:

We are still looking, but it will not be the (biggest) transfer window of LFC. It just will be a transfer window.

We will see what we do, and if we haven’t done anything by the end it will be for different reasons.

It’s about using this team. In the transfer window, you have to build a team that you think you want to go into the season with. But I have that team already.

If we can bring somebody else in that makes it even better, we will see. But if not, this team is already there. And again we will have to find solutions at different moments.

The Reds have been linked with a host of names this summer, from Lille winger Nicolas Pepe to Sporting CP star Bruno Fernandes.

It may simply be that a signing is announced from nowhere, much like Fabinho last year, who joined almost immediately after Liverpool lost the Champions League final to Real Madrid.

It would be a surprise if Van den Berg is the only summer purchase, but Klopp and transfer guru Michael Edwards have shown that they should be trusted.
