Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has stated that yesterday’s late defeat to Napoli in the Champions League was a ‘reality check’ for his side.
Last season’s Champions League runners-up were beaten 1-0 in Naples thanks to a 90th-minute winner from Lorenzo Insigne after struggling to create any serious chances against the Serie A side.

Perhaps more worrying was the fact that Liverpool failed to register a single shot on target, despite boasting the lethal threesome of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino up front.
And the Mirror report that the 27-year-old believes the club must learn quickly from their shortcomings in order to improve this season.
It’s a good game to learn from. That’s what we’re going to do – we’re going to analyse the game and see what we can do better. We know what we can bring, we still have confidence. But this was a reality check on how things must not go. It’s a good lesson for us to get better.
The Dutch midfielder was also clear in his mind what went wrong on Wednesday night.
You’re always disappointed when you lose a game. We didn’t play well and they deserved to win. They were calmer than us on the ball, they defended well and stopped us creating chances. It was not a good day for us. They deserved to win.
After much pre-season optimism at the club, question marks are being raised at various players and aspects of their game after a run of three games without a win in all competitions.
Jurgen Klopp’s side face the mouthwatering clash with Manchester City this Sunday and they will need to be at their very best if they are to end the poor run of form.
