Liverpool handed Mohamed Salah boost by Egyptian FA

Liverpool’s title challenge has been handed a much-needed boost with the news that Mohamed Salah will not play for Egypt in their upcoming friendlies.

It has been a while since the last international break, but domestic duty will make way for it next month.

The Reds aren’t exactly blessed with good fortune when it comes to players picking up injuries for the countries.

Salah is someone whose fitness Jurgen Klopp won’t be sweating over in March, however.

The Liverpool Echo have confirmed that the 26-year-old will not play in Egypt’s African Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Niger Republic (March 22nd) and Nigeria (March 26th).

This is due to them already qualifying for the tournament, with coach Javier Aguirre keen to give other players a chance to shine.

It means Salah can rest up and prepare himself for the final weeks of the season, at which point Liverpool could be in pole position to win the Premier League title.

Victory at home to Bournemouth on Saturday would take the Reds three points clear of Manchester City, who host Chelsea on Sunday afternoon.
