Liverpool have a break from Premier League action tonight as they take on Aston Villa in the FA Cup third round.
The Reds make the trip to Villa Park aiming to avenge the 7-2 humiliation they suffered there in the league back in October. Alas, Jurgen Klopp’s men have been in a poor run of form in recent weeks, failing to win any of their last three matches.
While the FA Cup certainly doesn’t take precedence this season, it is still an opportunity to get another trophy in the cabinet, with Liverpool not winning the competition since way back in 2006.
The build-up to the game has been overshadowed by a mass virus outbreak at Aston Villa, although the club has issued a statement affirming that they are working with the FA to try and ensure that the game goes ahead as planned. A report from The Guardian claimed that Villa will field youth team players in order to fulfil the fixture, a quirky role reversal from the Carabao Cup clash between the two clubs just over a year ago.
Klopp may well view this as the perfect chance to rest key players following a gruelling schedule and ahead of the vital league clash with Manchester United at Anfield a week on Sunday.
Here’s how we think Liverpool are going to line up against Villa, with nine changes anticipated for the Premier League champions from the team which started at Southampton on Monday…
