Liverpool ahead of Barcelona in pursuit for €40m deal for Portuguese midfielder

Liverpool have extensively been linked with a move for Lille and Portugal midfielder Renato Sanches this summer.

Both parties have been rumoured over the last month, with the Reds looking for a new midfielder.

This comes after the departure of Georginio Wijnladum who left the club at the start of July for PSG.

The Dutchman was a key component in the Liverpool squad and the departure has left a huge void.

However, Renato Sanches has been tipped as a replacement, and further updates have been reported today.

According to Mundo Deportivo, via LFC Transfer Room, Liverpool is the most likely destination for the 23-year-old…

The report also states that La Liga giants Barcelona are also highly interested in the Portuguese midfielder.

He has mightily impressed over the last couple of seasons especially this summer during the Euro 2020 tournament.

Last season saw the midfielder win Ligue 1 with his current side Lille, who are holding firm on their asking price.

Mundo Deportivo states that the French club are demanding €40million if a club is to sign the midfielder.

Liverpool are in a great position in the pursuit of Sanches with Barcelona struggling financially.

The Catalan club have already lost club legend Lionel Messi due to their lack of funds right now.

It has been recently reported that Barcelona are still struggling financially even after Messi’s departure.

This means that despite their interest, Liverpool are the only likely club for Sanches this summer.

Hopefully, if the club can offload fringe players in the squad to make room, then Sanches is a very realistic addition.
