Liverpool Reportedly Make Progress In PSG Chase

The big 2026/27 Premier League opener was not exactly what loyal and travelling Liverpool fans would have hoped for as they made the trip to St James’ Park to face Newcastle United. Ignoring the game itself for a moment, the tribute paid to legend Kevin Keegan was perfectly fitting, well deserved and hugely meaningful to both sets of fans for the obvious reasons.

As for the match, Andoni Iraola’s dug out debut could easily have gone better, however it is very early days for the former Bournemouth gaffer and he will still be getting his message across to the players and that does take more than a full pre season. There were a number of positives that fans can take, and it is not unfair to say that Alexander Isak in particular had a very bad game back on his former clubs’ soil. For any fan following his luck on sports betting sites since he secured his move away from Newcastle, such a poor and unlucky showing would not have been a great surprise and likely reflected in his odds on scoring.

With a roughly a week left in the summer transfer window, fans are expecting a few more outgoings, and a few more incomings, so settling properly and the more major improvement we can expect should follow once we are moving through the month of September. With continuing defensive concerns, allied to offensive issues being front and centre once again right now though, a fresh update on our long standing speculation rumour mill interest in Paris Saint-Germain talent Bradley Barcola will be welcomed by many.

In the last two months especially, there have been plenty of claims and counterclaims made about the talented 28 capped French international. He has been a key forward for the French Ligue 1, and current Champions League winners, but it seems that he has grown bored of being a more favoured substitute option. With their attacking investment this summer, he has arguably slipped down the pecking order, and it has been widely understood that he was looking for a move away this summer, and that we were a more favoured option.

With a clear disparity between both clubs in his valuation, it is now being reported this week that PSG have moved on that front from their end and that they are now willing to accept a slightly lower transfer fee in order to better ensure that a deal goes through before we hit September’s Deadline Day. Although this has not eliminated the reported gap that exists, it does leave us closer than ever with us slowly upping our believed offers over the weeks.

Whether it is true or not, it is now being reported that as we prepare what we consider to be our final offer for this window, we are very confident that it will be acceptable their end, and further unsourced claims are suggesting that the player himself now feels that this will see an agreement finally reached.

Barcola is only one iron in the fire for Iraola though, reports continue to suggest that we will now go back with a third offer for Brighton and Hove Albion’s Yankuba Minteh after our second – around the £60 million mark – was rejected. Brighton are said to be holding out for in excess of £70 million, but whether or not we would go that high after last season’s expenditure and the belief that Barcola will set us back circa £145 million, remains to be seen.
