Liverpool still interested in David Alaba ‘at the request of Klopp’

Liverpool are still pushing to sign David Alaba in the summer transfer window, according to AS [via Sport Witness].

The 28-year-old will leave Bayern Munich at the end of the season, following a wonderful period at the club that has culminated in nine Bundesliga titles and two Champions Leagues.

Alaba has been linked with Liverpool numerous times this season, but Real Madrid are reported to have agreed a four-year deal, making them hot favourites to sign him.

This new report states that the Reds’ continued interest is ‘at the request’ of Jurgen Klopp, however, although his financial demands could be a stumbling block.

When a player of Alaba’s pedigree becomes available, a club should do all they can to sign him.

The Austrian may slowly be reaching the veteran stage of his career, but he remains a superb player – one who is capable of playing at left-back, centre-back or central midfield.

Like Thiago, he has a wealth of experience and intelligence as a footballer, and Liverpool could enjoy several years of him at the very top.

Alaba’s wage demands could be an issue, though – the report states that he would have to become the Reds’ highest-paid player, which may not be possible – so Madrid still feel like the front-runners to snap him up.
